Ben Salango is the founder of Salango Law, PLLC. He has twenty-six years of experience in personal injury litigation and has tried approximately 50 civil jury trials in state and federal courts in West Virginia. Mr. Salango has argued numerous cases in the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He has proudly recovered hundreds of millions of dollars for victims of Charleston medical malpractice, personal injury, school abuse, and wrongful death. His cases have been featured nationally on CNN, Headline News, Fox News, ABC News, ESPN, USA Today, People Magazine, Becker’s Hospital Review, National Verdict Reporter, and Crime Stories with Nancy Grace.
Mr. Salango has been rated by his colleagues as one of the “Best Lawyers in America” in the area of personal injury litigation and medical malpractice for eleven consecutive years. In 2023, 2021 and 2019, Mr. Salango was voted “Lawyer of the Year” by his peers.
Following a storied career as the head volleyball coach for nineteen years at the University of Charleston, Dr. Bren Stevens was selected to lead the Department of Athletics on January 23, 2012. Since being promoted to Director of Athletics, Stevens has taken the athletics program to new heights. Under her watch, the Golden Eagles captured the inaugural Commissioner’s Cup for the Mountain East Conference in 2014 and secured first-place finishes in 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. This award goes to the institution with the best overall athletics program based on how each sport finishes during its conference season. Dr. Stevens was named the “Nike Executive of the Year” by Women Leaders in College Sports and recognized as the D2 Athletic Directors Association’s “Athletic Director of the Year” in 2022. These awards celebrate the respect and support that Dr. Stevens receives throughout the country as a distinguished leader.
Dr. Stevens has been highly involved with the NCAA, NACDA, and Women Leaders in Sports over the years and served as the NCAA II Vice Chair of Management Council as well as on numerous NCAA committees such as Planning and Finance, Championships, Administrative Council, Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects in Sports, NCAA II Branding and Identity Committee, NCAA Volleyball, and Softball RAC Committees. Additionally, Dr. Stevens is a proud Women Leaders in Sports Executive Institute graduate. In 2013, Dr. Stevens was appointed to serve on NACDA’s D2ADA Board of Directors, in which she continues to serve as a facilitator for the NCAA II and D2 ADA mentoring program for women and minorities. The National Association for Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) announced in July 2021 that Dr. Stevens would be serving as the President of the Division II Athletic Directors Association (D2ADA). Lastly, Bren was a highly decorated four-sport honoree at Morris Harvey College/UC as a competitive athlete, and later, she was inducted into the prestigious UC Hall of Fame in 2006.
